Saalbach-Hinterglemm
๐ฆ๐น Salzburg ยท Austria โ Altitude 2086 m
This live camera looks over the alpine ski resort of Saalbach-Hinterglemm at about 2,086 metres above sea level. It is useful for checking snow, cloud and visibility on the slopes before you travel or head up the lifts.
Saalbach-Hinterglemm sits in the Pinzgau region of the Austrian state of Salzburg, in a wide valley surrounded by high limestone peaks. It is one of the largest linked ski areas in Austria, and in summer the same valleys turn into hiking and mountain bike territory with meadows, forest tracks and alpine huts. The village itself is a compact cluster of hotels, chalets and restaurants strung along the main road.
The camera is a mountain view, so the picture is driven by weather more than anything else. On clear mornings the slopes and the surrounding ridges are easiest to read, while low cloud or snowfall can hide them for hours. Winter viewers tend to check early in the day for fresh snow and firm pistes, and summer viewers often look in the late afternoon when the valley light softens. Conditions can change quickly at altitude, so a fresh look is worth taking.
Winters are cold and snowy, usually from December into March, and summers are mild with long daylight and frequent afternoon showers. Shoulder seasons in late spring and autumn are quieter but can bring rain and closed lifts. Nearby cameras on the Kohlmais, Kohlmaiskopf, FlyingCam and Hochwartalm give more angles on the same terrain. Public buses and the ski bus network connect the villages of the valley.
