About Forchtenstein and the Rosalia

Forchtenstein is a small town in the Burgenland state of eastern Austria, close to the border with Lower Austria. It is best known for its hilltop castle, Burg Forchtenstein, which has guarded the approach to the Rosalia hills for centuries. The Rosalia, also called Ródl, are a forested mountain chain of modest height, shaped by farming villages, meadows and vineyards on the lower slopes. The landscape feels quiet and rural, with a clear sense of the wide Pannonian plain stretching east.
