Lakeway - Lake Travis
🇺🇸 Texas · United States — Altitude 242 m
This live camera looks out over Lake Travis, the reservoir on the Colorado River just west of Austin. Lakeway is a lakeside community, so the stream is a quick way to see how the water and sky look right now. Use it to judge conditions before a day on the lake or a sunset outing.
Lakeway sits on the shores of Lake Travis in the Texas Hill Country, a region of limestone hills, cedar and oak. Lake Travis was created by a dam on the Colorado River and is known for boating, swimming, fishing and waterfront homes. The landscape around the lake is dry and open, with rocky shorelines that change colour through the seasons, from green in spring to pale gold in late summer.
Depending on the view, you may see the open water, the far shoreline and the sky over the lake. Water levels rise and fall with rainfall and drought, so the shoreline can look quite different from one week to the next. Early morning often brings calm water and haze, while late afternoon light is warm and good for watching boats. Storms can build quickly over the hills, so conditions may change within minutes.
Central Texas has hot, humid summers with frequent temperatures above 35 °C, while spring and autumn are usually mild and pleasant for outdoor time. Lakeway is about 30 kilometres west of downtown Austin, and the lake is reached by local roads. Nearby live cameras include the Villages of Hidden Lake in Pflugerville, about 26 km away, and cameras in Kyle and San Marcos.
