This live camera looks out over El Paso, Texas, a city where the Rocky Mountains meet the Chihuahuan Desert on the Rio Grande. Watch the stream to get a sense of the sky, light and conditions in the city before you plan a visit or a call.
El Paso sits at about 1,100 metres above sea level, on the western tip of Texas, where the state meets New Mexico and the Mexican border. Across the river lies Ciudad Juárez, and the two cities together form one of the largest binational urban areas in North America. The surrounding landscape is open desert framed by mountain ranges, giving the city wide views and dramatic sunsets.
The camera shows the city view as it is right now, so the picture changes with the weather and the time of day. Early morning and late afternoon usually bring the most striking light across the mountains, while midday tends to flatten the scene under strong sun. Clear days offer the best visibility, and dust or haze can reduce the view during windy periods.
El Paso has a hot semi-arid climate with very sunny days, hot summers and mild winters, and it receives little rain. Spring and autumn are generally the most comfortable times to visit. Nearby, you can compare views from the international bridge cameras in Ciudad Juárez and Fabens, or the Tornillo and Cloudcroft cameras to see different parts of the region.
