Klamath County - Willamette Pass Base Area
πΊπΈ Oregon Β· United States β Altitude 1567 m
This camera looks out over the base area at Willamette Pass, a mountain crossing in the Cascade Range of southern Oregon at about 1,567 metres. It is useful for checking conditions on the pass before you drive up, whether the road is clear or snow is building.
Willamette Pass sits on the high ridge of the Cascades between Klamath County and the Willamette Valley side of the range. It is best known as a winter destination with downhill slopes and a resort at the base, and in summer the area is used for hiking and mountain biking through dense conifer forest. The landscape is a mix of volcanic terrain, lakes and old growth trees, and the air is noticeably cooler than in the lowlands below.
The image is most useful for seeing snowfall, cloud cover and the state of the base area during the day. Winter mornings often show fresh snow and fog in the trees, while clear summer afternoons show the forest and the roads more clearly. Since the view depends on the mountain weather, you may see anything from bright sun to whiteout, so check the current conditions block on this page before relying on what you see.
Winters are cold and snowy at this elevation, and the pass can close or require chains during storms. Late summer and early autumn are generally the most reliable months for travel and hiking. The Willamette Pass Resort is right at the base, and nearby cameras on the Deschutes County side, including Mt Bachelor, offer views of other parts of the Cascades.
