This live camera looks out over the mountain resort of Big Sky in southwestern Montana. It is a good way to check snow, cloud and visibility on the slopes before you plan a trip. The stream is provided by Big Sky Resort and is shown here with a link to the source.
Big Sky is a resort area in the Gallatin Valley, south of Bozeman, set among the high peaks of the Madison Range. The village sits at roughly 2,650 metres, so the air is thin and the weather can change quickly. The region is known for its large ski terrain, wide open bowls and wildlife, including elk and bears in the surrounding wilderness. Mountain views dominate the landscape in every season.
Because this is a mountain camera, the view depends heavily on weather. On clear days you may see the peaks in sharp detail and the snow cover on the slopes. Cloud and snowfall can hide the upper mountain entirely, which is useful information in itself. Mornings often give the cleanest air, while afternoon clouds build in summer. Winter brings the most activity on the runs and the most dramatic snow.
Winters are cold and snowy, with the main ski season running from late autumn into spring. Summers are mild and sunny, suited to hiking and mountain biking, though afternoon storms are possible. Big Sky is reached most easily by car from Bozeman-Yellowstone International Airport, about an hour away. Nearby cameras on the Spanish Peaks, Lone Peak Tram and Moonlight Basin are worth checking too.
