Cape Porpoise - Outer Harbor
🇺🇸 Maine · United States — Altitude 4 m
This live camera looks out over the outer harbor at Cape Porpoise, a small fishing village on the southern Maine coast. It is a useful window onto the working waterfront, the tides and the conditions on the water. Anyone planning a visit to the area, or simply curious about New England harbor life, can follow the view here.
Cape Porpoise sits on a tidal inlet in the town of Arundel and Kennebunkport's neighborhood on the Atlantic coast of Maine. The village grew around lobstering and fishing, and boats still moor in its harbor. The coastline here is a mix of rocky points, salt marsh and small coves, typical of the Gulf of Maine. The landscape changes noticeably with the tide, which is one reason the harbor makes an interesting thing to watch.
The camera is titled as the outer harbor, so the view is likely to take in moored boats, the water channel and the open sea beyond. Depending on the angle, you may see lobster boats heading out in the early morning and returning in the afternoon. Tide level and fog are often the most noticeable changes. Early morning and late afternoon tend to be the most atmospheric times to watch.
Maine summers are mild and pleasant, with warm days and cool nights, while winters are cold and snowy. Late June through September is the most popular season for visiting the coast. Nearby cameras include Cape Porpoise Inner Harbor, Kennebunk Beach and Wells Beach, which give you more views of the same coastline. Kennebunkport is about five kilometers away.
