Chicago - Skydeck Cam - North View
πΊπΈ Illinois Β· United States β Altitude 219 m
This live camera looks north from the Skydeck, the observation deck on the upper floors of Willis Tower in downtown Chicago. It is a useful way to see the city skyline and the Chicago River area without leaving your screen. The stream is provided by its owner and embedded here with a link to the source.
Chicago sits on the southwest shore of Lake Michigan and is the largest city in Illinois. It is known for its architecture, from early skyscrapers to modern towers, and for its river, museums and lakefront parks. Willis Tower, the building that holds the Skydeck, was for a long time the tallest building in the United States, and its glass ledges extend out over the street far below. The north view takes in dense downtown blocks and the lines of buildings stretching toward the lake and the north side of the city.
Clear days give the most distinct view of the skyline, while haze or low cloud can soften the buildings and hide the lake edge. Daylight shows the rooftops and streets in detail, and the city lights become the main feature after dusk. Depending on the view, you may see traffic moving along the wide avenues and the rhythm of the downtown grid. Winter often brings sharp visibility after cold fronts, while summer evenings are popular for the long light.
Chicago has warm, humid summers and cold winters with snow, so late spring, early autumn and clear summer days are the most comfortable times to visit. The city has a dense transit network of trains and buses, and the downtown core is easy to explore on foot. Nearby cameras on this site, including the West View of the Skydeck and the Willis Tower feed, show the same area from other angles.
