πΊπΈ California Β· United States β Altitude 2560 m
This live camera looks out over the Silverado area of Palisades Tahoe, a ski resort above Olympic Valley in the Sierra Nevada. It is useful for checking snow and mountain conditions before deciding whether to head up to the slopes or plan a day around the weather.
Palisades Tahoe sits in the Sierra Nevada of California, close to the shore of Lake Tahoe, at an altitude of about 2,560 metres. Olympic Valley, where the resort is based, is best known as the site of the 1960 Winter Olympics and as one of the largest ski areas in North America. The surroundings are granite peaks, pine forest and deep winter snow, and the scenery changes quite a lot from season to season.
The view is most informative in winter, when snow cover, cloud movement and the lift and piste activity show the day's conditions. In summer and autumn the same mountain slopes show bare granite, green meadows and afternoon thunderstorms that often build over the peaks. Early morning and late afternoon light often make the ridgelines easiest to read, depending on the view.
Winter is the main season for visitors, with snow usually lasting from December into spring, while summer offers hiking and mild, drier days. Weather at this height can change quickly, so the live forecast on this page is worth checking before travelling. Other cameras nearby include Alpine Summit, Alpine Meadows Race Services and River Ranch Lodge in Olympic Valley.
