Mammoth Lakes - Tamarack XC Ski Center

This live stream follows the Tamarack Cross-Country Ski Center above Mammoth Lakes, a base for Nordic skiing in the eastern Sierra Nevada. It is useful for judging whether the trails are open and what conditions look like before you drive up the mountain road.
Mammoth Lakes sits at roughly 2,600 metres in the Eastern Sierra, on the edge of the Inyo National Forest. The town grew around the Mammoth Mountain ski area and is known for its volcanic landscape, lakes, hot springs and high alpine scenery. The air is thin and dry, and the surrounding peaks rise sharply above the forest.
The view is most useful during winter, when fresh snow shows whether the cross-country tracks are groomed and how much cover there is. Mornings often bring clear light and the best visibility, while afternoon snowfall can change conditions quickly. Depending on the view, you may see skiers, grooming machines or the surrounding forest edge.
Winter is the main season here, with heavy snowfall and cold nights, so layered clothing and sun protection are important at this altitude. Summer brings hiking, cycling and fishing to the lakes. Nearby cameras on Mammoth Mountain, including the Summit and Canyon Lodge views, show the lifts and higher slopes a few kilometres away.
