Phoenix - White Tank Mountains - AZGMRS Repeater Site
πΊπΈ Arizona Β· United States β Altitude 1158 m
This live camera looks out over the White Tank Mountains, a rugged desert range on the western edge of the Phoenix metropolitan area. It is mounted at a radio repeater site, so the feed is best suited to watching the mountains, sky and changing desert light rather than any single attraction.
The White Tank Mountains rise abruptly from the desert floor west of Phoenix, with granite peaks and boulder-strewn slopes covered in saguaro, palo verde and creosote. The range is part of a larger Sonoran Desert landscape and is known for its hiking trails, petroglyph sites and wide open views toward the valley. Elevation at this location is roughly 1,160 metres, which gives the surroundings a noticeably different character from the city below.
Depending on the view, the most rewarding moments are usually early morning and late afternoon, when low sun lights up the rock faces and long shadows bring out the ridges. Desert weather can change quickly, so this is also a good place to follow storm build-up during the summer monsoon season, when clouds often gather over the peaks. Clear winter days tend to offer the sharpest visibility.
Phoenix has a hot desert climate, with summers frequently above 40 Β°C and mild, sunny winters that are the most popular time to visit. Spring and autumn are generally the most comfortable for outdoor activity in the hills. Other cameras in the region include Surprise, about 19 km away, Peoria at Calderwood Butte, about 31 km away, and a city view in Phoenix about 47 km away, which together show a range of the surrounding landscape.
