About Skipton
Skipton sits where the limestone Pennine hills meet the flatter Aire valley, in North Yorkshire. It grew around a castle and a long market tradition, and it is best known as the gateway to the Dales, with the Leeds and Liverpool Canal running through the town. The surrounding landscape of stone walls, moorland and river meadows gives the town a distinctly northern character. Streets are compact, and much of the older centre is built in local grey stone.
