This live camera looks out over Loch of the Lowes, a small freshwater loch in the Perthshire countryside of the Scottish Highlands. It is a good place to check the conditions on the water and in the surrounding woodland before a visit or simply to enjoy a quiet view of a Scottish landscape.
Loch of the Lowes sits in the Perthshire area of central Scotland, close to the town of Dunkeld and the edge of the Highland Perthshire landscape. It is best known as a wildlife reserve managed by the Scottish Wildlife Trust, and the loch is valued for its reedbeds and for the osprey populations that fish here in summer. The surroundings are a mix of water, mixed woodland and rising farmland, typical of the glens that run north into the Highlands.
The view is of the loch and its shoreline, and the stream is most rewarding in calm, clear weather when the water is still and reflections are strong. Early morning and late evening often bring the most activity, and the light changes a great deal with the seasons. Depending on the view, you may see waterfowl on the water and changing colours in the trees through the year. Weather can change quickly in this part of Scotland, so the live conditions on the page are worth checking alongside the picture.
The Perthshire climate is cool and often wet, with mild summers and cold, damp winters, so late spring and summer are the most comfortable months to visit. Pitlochry, Aberfeldy and Dundee are all within reach of this area by road, and the nearby cameras on this site cover Perth Airport and the River Tay. Good waterproof clothing is advisable whatever the season.
