This live stream looks out over Porthmadog on the Welsh coast, with the Snowdonia hills as the backdrop. It is useful if you want to see the conditions before travelling or simply keep an eye on the estuary light and the weather moving over the mountains.
Porthmadog is a harbour town in Gwynedd, on the north-west coast of Wales, sitting where the Glaslyn estuary meets Tremadog Bay. It grew around slate shipping in the nineteenth century and still has a working-town character, with the Ffestiniog Railway's historic line nearby. The surrounding landscape moves quickly from flat marshland and sand to steep mountain country, which is why the area is so popular with walkers.
The title names Aberdunant and Snowdonia, so the view is likely to take in the estuary and the mountain skyline rather than the town centre alone. Depending on the angle, you may see changing cloud over the peaks, tide movement on the water and the light shifting across the hills. Mornings and late afternoons usually give the clearest contrast, and the most dramatic views tend to come after rain, when the mountains are sharp.
Wales has a mild but very wet climate, so layers and waterproofs are sensible at any time of year. Late spring and early autumn are often the most settled months. Nearby cameras in this area include Portmeirion, Criccieth and the Llanberis view by Llyn Padarn, which together give a good picture of the coast and the mountains before you go.
