This live stream looks out over a beach on Ko Pha Ngan, the island in the Gulf of Thailand best known for its full moon parties and quiet coves. Watch it to check conditions on the water before a trip or simply to see what the Gulf looks like right now.
Ko Pha Ngan sits off the east coast of the Thai mainland in Surat Thani province, reached by ferry from Surat Thani town, Don Sak and nearby Samui. The island is hilly and forested, with long white-sand bays on the west and northwest coasts and smaller rocky coves elsewhere. Its reputation for monthly full moon gatherings sits alongside a slower life in villages, fishing harbours and resort beaches, and the island remains quieter than neighbouring Koh Samui.
The view is a coastal beach stream, so the water, sand and sky are the main subjects, and the mood changes a great deal over the day. Early morning often brings calm sea and soft light, while afternoons can bring sharp shadows and wind-driven waves. Late afternoon into sunset is typically the most rewarding time to watch. Depending on the view, you may also see boats moored offshore or people on the sand, but conditions vary from one moment to the next.
Ko Pha Ngan has a tropical monsoon climate with hot, humid conditions year-round. The southwest monsoon from roughly May to October brings more rain and rougher seas on the western coasts, while the drier season from about January to April is generally considered the best time to visit. Ferries connect the island with the mainland and Koh Samui, and taxis, scooters and songthaews move visitors around. Nearby live cameras on the Gulf coast include Bophut, Bangrak, Chaweng and Lamai.
