About Fontenais and its setting
Fontenais is a village in the Canton of Jura, in the northwest of Switzerland, close to the French border. The area is part of the Jura mountain range, a landscape of wooded ridges, pastures and small villages at roughly 560 metres above sea level. Fontenais is known mainly for its local airfield, which serves general aviation and light traffic rather than commercial flights, so the atmosphere is quiet and rural.
What the camera shows and when to watch
The camera is aimed at the approach to runway 07, so the view is tied to aircraft landing and taking off, rather than to scenery. Traffic at small airfields is usually lighter on weekdays and tends to pick up in fair weather, especially in spring and summer. Clear mornings and late afternoons are often the most pleasant times to watch, since visibility is generally better and the light is kinder on the runway.
Practical notes and nearby cameras
Jura winters can be cold and cloudy, while summers are mild and often the most stable season for flying. Fog and low cloud can settle in the valleys, so check the weather block on this page before you plan a visit. Nearby, you can compare the view with the Bressaucourt camera, and with the Biel, Belfort-Chaux and Basel cameras for a wider look at the region.
