This live stream follows the castle at Gniew, a medieval fortress overlooking the Vistula River in northern Poland. It is useful if you want to check the castle and river conditions before a visit, or simply follow the town from afar. The page also shows local time and the forecast for Gniew.
Gniew sits on a rise above the Vistula in the Pomerania region, a few dozen kilometres from the Baltic coast. Its castle, built by the Teutonic Order and later extended, is one of the best-known fortifications on the river. The surrounding landscape is flat farmland and river meadows, with the water shaping much of the town's character and its views.
The camera is aimed at the castle complex, so the most interesting moments are usually in good daylight, when the brick walls and river are clearly visible. Since the view is live, conditions such as cloud, rain, fog over the river or the lighting at dusk will change the picture noticeably. Early mornings in calm weather often bring the clearest view of the water.
Pomerania has a temperate climate with mild summers and cool, wet winters, so late spring and summer are the most comfortable seasons to visit. The town is within easy reach of Grudziądz to the south and Gdańsk to the north. Other cameras on this site cover the Vistula meander and the town panorama, which give a broader sense of the area.
