This live stream looks over Finse, a mountain settlement at about 1,237 metres in Innlandet county, Norway. It is a place where the high plateau meets glaciers and snowfields, and where the railway line pauses for travellers crossing the Hardangervidda. Watch to see how conditions change through the day.
Finse sits on the Hardangervidda, one of Europe's largest high plateaus, in the centre of southern Norway. The settlement is small and is best known as a railway stop on the Oslo to Bergen line, surrounded by bare rock, lakes and the glaciers of the Hardangerjøkulen area. The landscape feels remote and open, shaped by long winters and wind that sweeps across the tundra.
The camera is most interesting when cloud moves fast across the plateau, when snow lies heavily on the slopes, or when the low northern light changes the colour of the rock and water. Views in the long summer evenings can be especially clear. Depending on the weather, you may see fog rolling in, sudden snow showers or still, bright days. Check the live weather block on this page before you watch.
Finse has a subarctic mountain climate: summers are cool and short, and winters are long and cold. Many visitors come between June and September, when the trails are usually open, although snow can linger into early summer. Nearby cameras cover Voss, Gudvangen and Flåm, which are lower down and warmer, so you can compare conditions across the region.
