About Kanazawa
Kanazawa is the capital of Ishikawa Prefecture, on the west coast of central Honshu. For centuries it was the seat of the Maeda clan, whose wealth shaped its craft traditions, including gold leaf, lacquerware and Kutani porcelain. The city is known for its preserved samurai and geisha districts and for Kenrokuen, one of Japan's most celebrated landscape gardens, which lies a short distance from the centre. The surroundings combine a flat coastal plain with hills rising inland.
