This live camera gives a street-level view of traffic in Aomori, a port city at the northern tip of Honshu. It is useful for checking road conditions and seeing how the city looks at the moment, before or during a trip. The stream is provided by ATV Aomori TV and embedded here with a link to the source.
Aomori is the capital of Aomori Prefecture, on the Shimokita side of the Mutsu Bay coast in northern Honshu. The city is known for its harbour, its role as a gateway to the ferry routes toward Hokkaido, and for the Nebuta festival held every summer, when enormous painted lantern floats are paraded through the streets. Mount Hakkoda rises to the south-east and gives the area a strong sense of its mountain and sea setting.
As a traffic camera, the view is mainly about vehicles, junctions and the flow of the road, so it is most useful for judging how busy the streets are at a given hour. Morning and late afternoon commuting periods are usually the most active. Depending on the framing and the season, you may also notice snow on the road in winter or the changing light of longer summer days.
Aomori has cold, snowy winters and mild, relatively cool summers compared with southern Japan, so the best time to visit for outdoor activities is late spring through early autumn. The city is well served by trains and buses, and Aomori Station is the main hub. Nearby cameras in the region include Aomori - Gare, Goshogawara, Towada-Shi and Imabetsu - Port.
