A lake under the Dolomites

Alleghe sits on the shore of a small glacial lake at about 1,000 metres, with the Civetta massif rising steeply above it. The lake is the village's centre, and the surrounding ridges, forests and pastures give the valley its character. The area is known as a base for hiking, climbing and winter skiing in the Dolomites, and it has a calm, traditional mountain atmosphere. Spring can be unsettled, with melting snow and changeable skies.
