🇮🇹 Umbria · Italy — Altitude 473 m
This camera looks onto Piazza IV Novembre, the main square of Perugia, the hilltop capital of Umbria in central Italy. It is a useful way to see how the historic centre is moving through the day, from morning market activity to evening strolls. The live player, local time and weather are shown together on this page.
Perugia sits on a ridge about 470 metres above sea level, with the Tiber valley spread out below and the wider Umbrian countryside beyond. The city has a long history stretching back to Etruscan times, and its medieval centre is built on steep, winding streets. Piazza IV Novembre is the civic heart of the old town, where the Fontana Maggiore and the cathedral sit close together and the square has long served as a meeting point for locals and visitors.
Depending on the view, the square is most lively in the late morning and early evening, when people cross between the cathedral steps and the central fountain. Quieter moments often come during the midday break and after dark, when lighting picks out the stonework. Activity changes with the seasons and with university term, since Perugia has a large student population that gives the centre a youthful rhythm during the academic year.
Umbria has hot, dry summers and cool winters, with the hills sometimes catching mist or light snow in the colder months. Spring and autumn are generally the most comfortable times to visit the city. Perugia is well connected by train to Florence and Rome, and within the town escalators and lifts help climb the steep slopes. Nearby on VizCams you can also watch Assisi, about 17 km away, including its basilica and central square.
