Mals - Hotel Watles - Val Venosta - vue vers le sud-est
๐ฎ๐น Trentino-South Tyrol ยท Italy โ Altitude 1720 m
This live camera looks southeast from the Hotel Watles above Mals, over the broad Vinschgau valley of South Tyrol. It is useful for seeing how the valley floor and the surrounding mountains look right now, before a trip or simply to watch the light change over the slopes.
Mals is a small market town in the upper Vinschgau, the long valley that runs from the Reschen Pass towards Merano. It sits at about 1,700 metres, surrounded by orchards, meadows and steep mountain flanks. The area is known for its apple growing, its clear mountain air and its quiet, unhurried rhythm, which makes it a good base for people who want the Alps without the crowds of the big resorts.
The camera is aimed across the valley towards the south-east, so the most interesting moments tend to come in the morning, when sunlight reaches the far slopes first, and in the late afternoon, when shadows lengthen along the valley floor. In winter the higher ridges may be snow-covered, while in summer the meadows are green. Depending on the view and visibility, you may also notice clouds building over the peaks in the afternoon.
Summers are mild and winters cold, with snow often lasting from December into March at this altitude. Spring and early autumn are pleasant for walking. Several other cameras in the area show the same valley from different points, including Solda with a view towards the Ortler, Stilfs near Stelvio, and the Lake Resia area. Checking the live weather on this page before setting out helps with planning.
