This live camera looks out toward the Matterhorn from Cervinia, a high alpine resort on the Italian side of the mountain. Check it to see how the peak looks right now, whether cloud is sitting on the summit, and what conditions are like before you travel.

A resort below the Matterhorn

Cervinia sits at about 2,550 metres in the Aosta Valley, in the Italian Alps, on the southern flank of the Matterhorn. It is one of the best-known ski areas in Italy and grew up around the mountain's dramatic north-east and south faces. The landscape is open high-altitude terrain of rock, snow and glacier, with pine-dotted slopes lower down. Its character is that of a compact mountain village with a strong outdoor culture.

What the view can show

This is a mountain camera, so the main thing to watch is the weather around the summit. Clear mornings often give the sharpest outline of the peak, while cloud and wind frequently wrap the top in the afternoon. Snow cover changes noticeably with the seasons, from the white of winter to the bare rock of late summer. Depending on the view, you may also see the lift lines and slopes that run up toward the high ground.

Practical notes and nearby views

Summer and early autumn are generally the most reliable months for clear views, while winter brings snow and skiing. Expect cold, windy conditions at this altitude even in summer, and check the forecast on the page before heading up. Nearby VizCams cameras include Breuil-Cervinia Seggiovia Campetto, Breuil-Cervinia Seggiovia Goillet and Cervinia Plateau Rosa, which show other parts of the resort and the glacier area.
