This live stream looks out over Ahmedabad, the largest city in the Indian state of Gujarat and a major centre of trade and textiles. Watch it to get a sense of the city's skyline, traffic and daily rhythm as they unfold in real time.
About Ahmedabad
Ahmedabad lies on the banks of the Sabarmati River in western India. Founded in the fifteenth century, it grew into a prominent cotton-milling city and is known today for its historic old town, its pols (traditional residential neighbourhoods), and its mix of old merchant architecture with modern business districts. The city is also associated with Mahatma Gandhi, who ran his ashram here for many years.
What the camera shows
Because this is a city view, the picture is mainly about urban life: road traffic, rooftops and the changing light over the skyline. Early morning and late afternoon tend to be the most pleasant times to watch, when the heat eases and street activity is at its busiest. Depending on the angle and weather, haze or dust may reduce visibility, so the live image is the best guide to conditions.
Climate and getting around
Ahmedabad has a hot semi-arid climate. Summers are very hot, often above 40 °C, while the monsoon brings rain mainly from July to September. The cooler, drier months from November to February are generally the most comfortable time to visit. Gujarat's wider region includes the Mount Abu hill station, which is also covered by a camera listed nearby on this site.
Nearby cameras
Another live camera from the same region, the Tower of Peace at Madhuban near Mount Abu, lies about 176 km away. Comparing the two views can give a sense of how the landscape changes from the flat urban plains of the city to the hills of north-western Gujarat.
