This live camera looks over the harbour at Rif, a small fishing settlement on the western side of Iceland. It is a quick way to see how boats and the sea are doing before you plan a trip along the peninsula. The live player, local time and weather are all on this page.
Rif lies on the Snæfell Peninsula, a short drive from the larger village of Ólafsvík. The settlement grew around fishing and remains a working harbour, which gives it a quiet, practical character. Beyond the harbour the land opens onto dark lava fields, low hills and the North Atlantic, a landscape typical of western Iceland where the weather can change within a single hour.
As a port camera, the feed is most likely to show the harbour basin, moored vessels and the movement of boats going out or coming in. Activity tends to be highest in the morning and when the fishing fleet is in. Depending on the view you may also see the sea surface and cloud cover moving across the water, which is useful for judging conditions at a glance.
Iceland's weather is famously changeable, and the coast around Rif can be windy and wet at any time of year. Summer offers the longest days and the mildest temperatures, while winter brings short daylight and stronger storms. Nearby cameras at Ólafsvík and Arnarstapi show neighbouring stretches of coast, so you can compare conditions along the peninsula before setting out.
