This live camera looks west from Schönherz Tower, a landmark on the Budapest University of Technology and Economics campus in the Hungarian capital. It suits anyone wanting to check the sky, visibility and conditions over the city before heading out. The page also shows the local time and forecast for Budapest.
About the place
Schönherz Tower stands on the Buda side of the Hungarian capital, close to the Danube, and belongs to the university campus that sits in the Újbuda district. Budapest is one of Central Europe's largest cities, known for its thermal baths, its bridges over the river and its mix of historic and modern architecture. The camera's position gives a broad view across the urban fabric rather than a single monument, so the scene changes with the weather and the time of year.
What you can watch
The view is most useful in clear daylight, when rooftops, the river corridor and distant hills are easier to make out. Morning and late afternoon light often brings out building details, while evenings show the city lights as they come on. Haze, rain and winter fog can reduce visibility, so the live stream is a quick way to judge conditions. Seasonal changes, from spring blossom to snow cover, also alter the look of the scene.
Visiting and practical notes
Budapest has a temperate continental climate with warm summers and cold, often grey winters, so spring and early autumn are popular for walking and sightseeing. The city is well served by trams, metro lines and buses, and the university area is easy to reach by public transport. Other cameras in the area include a north-east view from the same tower, a view along the university quay, and a view of Parliament and the Danube, which together give a fuller picture of the city.
Sightseeing context
Because the camera overlooks the city from a higher point, it can help you plan where to go next. Check the forecast on this page before choosing between riverside walks, outdoor cafés or indoor museums and baths.
