Zella-Mehlis - Rathaus
🇩🇪 Thuringia · Germany — Altitude 520 m
This live camera looks at the town hall of Zella-Mehlis, a small industrial town in the Thuringian Forest. It is useful for a quick check of conditions in the town centre before a visit or a drive through the region.
Zella-Mehlis sits in a valley on the northern edge of the Thuringian Forest, at about 520 metres above sea level. The two towns were merged in the twentieth century and grew around metalworking and firearms manufacturing, a history still visible in its streets and older buildings. Forested hills rise around the town, so the light and the weather can change quickly from the valley floor.
The camera is aimed at the town hall in the centre, so the view is mainly of the town square and the buildings around it. Activity tends to be busiest on weekday mornings and at lunchtime, while early mornings in winter often bring snow or fog to the valley. The best time to judge the weather is often mid-morning, when the sun has cleared the surrounding hills.
Winters are cold and snowy and summers are mild, with the most rain in the warmer months. Spring and early autumn are pleasant for walking in the nearby forest. Oberhof, with its winter sports facilities, lies a short drive away, and the Kickelhahn tower near Ilmenau is another option for a view over the hills.
