About Freiberg
Freiberg lies at the foot of the Erzgebirge hills, about 400 metres above sea level. For centuries its wealth came from silver mining, and the town still carries that history in its cathedral, its old mining academy and the narrow lanes around the market square. The old town is compact enough to explore on foot, and the surrounding countryside of forests and river valleys is easy to reach from the centre.
