Herzogstand - Fahrenbergkopf - vue sur le Kochelsee vers l'Oberland
🇩🇪 Bavaria · Germany — Altitude 1627 m
This live camera looks from the Herzogstand massif across Lake Kochel toward the Bavarian Oberland, a view many hikers and paragliders come up for. It is useful for judging cloud cover and visibility before committing to the ascent.
The Herzogstand rises at the southern end of the Walchensee area in the Bavarian Alps, above the smaller Kochelsee. The region is known for its deep glacial lakes, pastureland and the royal castles of the Bavarian kings. From the high ground the lake lies below in a long, narrow band, with the peaks of the Oberland rising beyond it. Conditions up here can change quickly, so the view often varies from clear to misty within the same hour.
The camera is most rewarding in the early morning, when the lake is calm and mist sometimes lifts from the water, and in the late afternoon, when the mountains take on warmer light. Clear winter days can show snow on the higher ridges, while summer brings green slopes and cloud build-up by midday. Because the view depends on weather, you may see mostly cloud at times, which is itself useful information for planning.
Summer, from June to September, is the most comfortable season for walking, while winter suits snowshoeing and skiing in the nearby mountains. Weather at altitude is colder and windier than in the valleys, so bring layers. Nearby cameras cover Walchensee toward the Karwendel, Maxhütte in Wallgau and the Staffel view in Jachenau, which are useful for comparing conditions across the region.
