This live stream gives you a current view over Bayreuth, the Upper Franconian city best known for its Wagner festival and baroque palaces. Check it before you travel, or simply to see how the weather looks in the city right now.
Bayreuth lies in northeastern Bavaria, on the Red Main river, at the edge of the Franconian Forest. The city grew rich under the Margraves of Brandenburg-Bayreuth, and their baroque residences still define its centre. Since 1876 it has also been home to the Richard Wagner Festival, held each summer in the Festspielhaus on the Green Hill. The surrounding countryside is gently rolling, with woods and farmland stretching away from the town.
The stream is best checked in daylight, when the rooftops, church towers and surrounding hills are easiest to make out. Depending on the framing, clear mornings often give the sharpest view, while the light in the late afternoon can warm the stone of the old town. In grey or misty weather the outline of the hills may be hard to see, so the live weather block on this page is worth reading alongside the picture.
Bayreuth has a temperate, continental-leaning climate with warm summers and cold, often snowy winters. Late spring and early autumn are pleasant for walking the palace gardens and the old town. Summer is the busiest season because of the festival, so book accommodation early if you plan to attend. Nearby cameras on this site show the Pottenstein toboggan run and the Ochsenkopf peak in the Fichtelgebirge, both within roughly half an hour's drive.
