This live camera looks out over Montmartre, the hilltop district of Paris crowned by the white basilica of Sacré-Cœur. Use it to see how the city looks right now before you head up the hill, or simply to watch Paris change through the day.

About Montmartre

Montmartre sits on a limestone hill in the north of Paris, about 130 metres above the river, and for more than a century it has drawn painters, writers and musicians. Its narrow streets, old windmills and village-like squares make it feel different from the wide boulevards below. The hill is also the highest point in the city, which is why its rooftops and skyline views are so well known.

What to watch and when

Because the camera is aimed at the Montmartre area, the best moments are usually early morning, when the light is soft and the streets are quiet, and late afternoon, when the stone turns golden. Clear days give the longest views across the city, while overcast or hazy weather can soften the outline of distant buildings. Check the current conditions on this page to judge how clear the view is likely to be.

Visiting and nearby views

Paris has a temperate oceanic climate, so spring and early autumn are generally the most comfortable months to climb the hill, with summer being busy and winter often grey. The Montmartre funicular or a steep walk up the stairs both reach the top. For more perspective on the city, you can compare this view with the Skyline camera about a kilometre away or with the Eiffel Tower camera a few kilometres off.
