This live stream looks toward Ha Ling Peak, one of the best-known limestone summits above the town of Canmore in the Canadian Rockies. It is useful for seeing how the mountain looks right now, whether cloud is sitting on the ridge, and how much snow is on the upper slopes. Local time and a three-day forecast are shown alongside the picture.
Canmore sits in the Bow Valley of southwestern Alberta, just outside the eastern gate of Banff National Park. Its setting is defined by steep limestone walls, conifer forest and the Bow River running along the valley floor. Ha Ling Peak rises close to town and is among the most frequently climbed mountains in the region, known for its sharp ridgeline and wide views over the valley. The town has grown from a former coal-mining community into a base for hiking, climbing and winter sports.
The camera is aimed at the mountain from the town side, so the main thing to follow is the light and the weather moving over the peak. Morning often brings clearer air and softer colour on the rock, while late afternoon and evening can give warm tones on the cliffs. Clouds and snow showers can cover the summit quickly, so checking the stream before planning a walk is a practical habit. Hours of daylight vary greatly through the year.
The Canmore area has a continental mountain climate with cold winters, heavy snowfall and short but warm summers. Late June through September is the most popular period for hiking, while December to March suits skiing at nearby resorts. Weather can change within hours at this elevation, so layers and waterproof clothing are sensible year-round. Other cameras in town show Main Street, Spring Creek Drive and the Nordic Centre, which help you judge conditions before you travel.
