This live camera looks toward the Penkenbahn cable car in Mayrhofen, one of the main gateways into the Zillertal Alps in western Austria. Watch the stream to judge snow, cloud and visibility on the slopes before planning a day in the mountains.
Mayrhofen is a village in the Zillertal valley of Tyrol, surrounded by high alpine peaks and forested slopes. It is known as a year-round base for skiing in winter and hiking and mountain biking in summer. The valley floor sits at a moderate elevation, while the surrounding ridges rise well above the village, so conditions can differ sharply between the town and the upper mountain.
Because the camera is set up on a mountain lift, the view is mainly about the slopes, the cable car route and the sky above them. Clear mornings give the sharpest views of the ridges, and fresh snow is easiest to spot after overnight weather. Afternoon cloud often builds over the peaks in summer, so checking early in the day is useful if you want a clear panorama.
Winter is the busiest season for skiing, with snow usually reliable from December to March. Summer suits hiking and cycling, and late spring or early autumn can be quieter. Mayrhofen is in a valley, so bring layers, since temperatures change quickly with altitude. Nearby cameras on the same network include the Penkenjoch, the FlyingCam and the Ahornbahn lift.
