This camera looks north from the water tower of the Kartell power plant above St. Anton am Arlberg, a village at about 1,985 metres in the Austrian Alps. It suits anyone planning a ski or mountain trip, or simply wanting to see how the valley looks right now. The live player is joined by local time and a three-day forecast.
St. Anton sits in the Stanzertal, a high alpine valley in western Tyrol, and is one of the best-known winter resorts in Austria. The village grew around the Arlberg pass road and is closely linked with the history of alpine skiing. Steep slopes, larger peaks and a compact village centre give the place its character, and the Trisanna river runs through the valley below.
The view from this elevated position takes in the valley and the mountainsides beyond the village. Snow cover is most visible in winter, and the light changes noticeably through the day as the sun moves across the slopes. Clouds often gather around the peaks in the afternoon, so mornings tend to offer the clearest outlook, depending on the weather at the time you watch.
Winters are cold and snowy, with the ski season running roughly from December to April, while summers are mild and suited to hiking. Shoulder seasons can be quieter and less predictable. The village is reached by road through the Arlberg tunnel or over the pass in good weather, and nearby camera views of Rendl, St. Christoph and the Galzig mountain station show other parts of the area.
