St. Wolfgang - Schafbergspitze
🇦🇹 Salzburg · Austria — Altitude 1770 m
This camera looks out from the summit area of the Schafberg, a mountain rising above St. Wolfgang in Salzburg state. It is a useful window onto the mountain weather and the lake far below. Watch it to judge whether the peaks are clear before you plan a climb or the cable car ride.
St. Wolfgang sits on the northeastern shore of Lake Wolfgang in the Salzkammergut, a lake district of the Austrian Alps. The Schafberg rises to a little over 1,700 metres directly above the village, and its summit has long been a destination for walkers and visitors who come for the wide panorama over the lakes and mountain ranges. The village itself is known for its historic pilgrimage church and lakeside setting.
The camera is mounted at high altitude, so its view depends heavily on cloud cover, haze and snow. Mornings often bring the clearest air before clouds build over the peaks, while late afternoon light can bring out the relief of the surrounding ridges. Watch in summer for hiking conditions and in winter for snow cover, keeping in mind that weather at the summit can differ sharply from the valley.
Summer is the main season for visiting, with mild temperatures in the valley and cooler, changeable weather on the summit, so bring warm layers even in July. A cable car runs from the lakeside to the mountain, and the summit is also reached on foot by mountain paths. Nearby on this site you can compare views from the Schafbergalm, the Schafbergbahn lower station and the lake ferry MS Salzkammergut.
